Your lifestyle

Can I go on holiday in a sunny climate during my acne treatment?

If you have an oral treatment with isotretinoin or antibiotics (tetracyclines), you need to be very cautious in the sun. Effectively, your treatment weakens your skin and makes it much more sensitive to UV rays: you can get severe sunburn much faster than usual, and you might also see brown spots appear at pimple sites. But do not worry; you do not need to cancel your holiday at the seaside! You just have to take some precautions: apply a high index sunscreen (at least SPF 30) every two hours, avoid exposing yourself to the sun between 11 am and 4 pm and, as much as possible, wear a hat, a T-shirt and sunglasses. Also talk about your holiday plans with your dermatologist: he or she may choose to reduce your prescription until you return.
